CAPA | Curated
Original works. Student voices.
CAPA | Curated is a student-driven choreography showcase designed to cultivate leadership, artistic ownership, and professional-level creative responsibility. This unique production places students at the center of the creative process—empowering emerging choreographers to conceive, develop, and produce original works from concept to performance.
Students audition separately as choreographers and dancers. Choreographers selected for CAPA | Curated assume full creative responsibility for their pieces, including developing movement, scheduling and leading rehearsals, casting and working with dancers, envisioning costumes, coordinating sound and lighting elements, and determining any props or staging needs. Each choreographer’s work is supported by a designated dance captain, fostering collaboration, organization, and leadership within each piece.
Throughout the process, CAPA Co-Directors Molly and Chelsea serve as mentors and producers—guiding students through artistic and logistical decision-making, offering feedback and support, and ensuring each work meets production standards. All choreography and concepts are subject to final creative approval, providing students with real-world experience working within a professional artistic framework.
Dancers cast in CAPA | Curated will perform in multiple works, including a choreographed opening and finale created by Molly and Chelsea, as well as at least one original student-created piece. This structure ensures that every participating dancer experiences both collaborative ensemble work and the opportunity to bring a peer’s creative vision to life.
CAPA | Curated is designed not only as a performance, but as a tour-ready production, with plans to bring the showcase to schools and venues throughout the surrounding counties in fall 2026. Participation may require occasional weekday commitments, including possible school absences, as students gain invaluable performance and outreach experience.
The program culminates in a final performance at the end of the fall semester for family and friends at Jarman Auditorium, celebrating the creativity, leadership, and artistry of CAPA’s student choreographers and dancers.
